Our Process
- We scan the original historical images at a minimum of 600dpi using an Epson scanner. We sharpen and clarify images as necessary in Adobe Photoshop. Using a 12”x18” Adobe Illustrator artboard we input each image and text and export as PDFs ready for printing. We keep each image separate to facilitate updates and repairs to individual plaques.
- Fastsigns of Appleton prints our prepared images (the exported PDF versions of the Adobe Illustrator files) on Premium Gloss Vinyl attached to 3mm Polymetal covered in Premium Gloss Laminate to increase UV protection. Several of our signs still look great after 8 seasons.
- We surface-mount the plagues to a 1”x12” white PVC trim board (manufactured by Royal Building Products purchased at Menards) using stainless steel screws.
- The PVC board is then supported by a treated lumber cross piece anchored in the ground to steel “U” stakes.
- Time and material costs for the average 7 plaque display (at commercial rates) is approx $2000 assuming easy access to images and historical information.
